A Guest post by Yann Kermorgant for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Yann Kermorgant has been an important role model for Felix during his treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.  At times, when the pain was too much and he found it difficult to cope, Yann was the only one who truly understood how he felt as he had been through the same thing himself.  Yann was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of 14 and had to undergo the same long and relentless treatment that Felix is faced with.  Despite this, Yann has gone on to become one of the most talented and successful footballers of our time and continues to inspire Felix on a daily basis.  I contacted Yann yesterday to see if he would be able to contribute something for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  He agreed without hesitation and here it is already.  Yann has been a guiding rock for Felix; we are so very grateful for his love, support and time.  Thank you, Yann.

Yann’s Story

The funny thing with Felix’s story is that we have so many similarities.  Felix’s cancer was diagnosed in January 2016 and mine in January 1996 so exactly 20 years before him, 20 years …

I know it’s just a number but it’s symbolic for me! There he is a young boy passionate about football like I was (a young boy 😋) and especially by his team Bournemouth who I used to play for! Our meeting was destined to happen and since then we have kept in touch and I have followed him in his incredible journey!

I am really proud of him for what he has achieved, not only for what he does himself to fight against cancer but for his determination to stay always positive and keep smiling.  His family is really special too and I have to mention them because of their importance to support him in such a cruel situation.

I understand even more now the parent’s position because I am a parent too. This hardship will make you all stronger and you will see the life differently after that for sure.

I could say more but the rest is history and what he will decide to achieve because, for sure, he can achieve a lot and make his dreams come true with the same determination he put in this battle against cancer!

Good luck mon Ami and if you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask me if I can help … 😉💪🏼
