A Blog to Break the Silence!

A Blog to Break the Silence!

This is written with sincerest of apologies.  How I have neglected my blog in recent weeks!  Obviously, this is a sign that life is getting in the way of my musings and thoughts which on the whole is a positive thing indeed.  Childhood cancer is no longer ruling the roost!

However, I love blogging and I miss it when I don’t.  The thing I love most about it is the interaction it triggers with people – the comments, the likes, the conversations.  Blogging encourages positive dialogue and with the negative hostility that exists in our current world, this is truly welcomed.

Anyway, it’s been a while, so to update you all on Felix and Team Brown.

Felix is still in treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.  You wouldn’t know it when you see him powering down the football pitch towards goal.  I do wonder what he will be like when he finishes treatment.  I read somewhere that it takes Felix five times more energy to do anything because of the chemotherapy he takes – it astounds me how he just gets on with it all.  We did have a blip at the beginning of June when he managed to catch a good old common cold – boy did it knock him for six.  It took a week off school for him to return to health and I’m pleased to say that he is back to his usual energetic, teenage-esque self.

Big news on the Mr Brown front.  After nearly twenty years of teaching, Dylan has resigned.  It’s been a long and tough decision, which has caused him a great deal of emotional turmoil but as of 1st September 2018, Dylan is jumping on the Go Fish ship and I can’t wait for him to board.  He will be bringing his expertise of Teaching and Learning, Coaching and specialism in Child Development to the fold – to be free of the shackles of teachers’ workload is just what he needs at the moment.  Not that he’ll have an easy ride working with me!

Generally, we are living life in a way we didn’t think would be possible two years ago.  What is hard is watching families that we know and have grown to love, continue to face the toughest of times.  This is hard.  And this might be why I find blogging so difficult at the moment.  I feel so bad/guilty/sorry that families are suffering – it’s just so wrong and fills me with such anger.  I can’t do anything, not really.  I can offer empathy, words and gifts but we’re not talking your usual childhood illness.  This is cancer.  This destroys lives.  This kills.

My thoughts, feelings and words feel worthless within this context.  However, I mustn’t and won’t give up my quest to continue to raise awareness about childhood cancer.  Everything we experience is part of it.  This is part of it.  All that I write will hopefully add a different perspective and dimension to understanding what it is like to have a child with cancer.

I endeavour to continue to my quest now that I have broken the silence!  More blogs to follow!

Happy Friday to you all 🙂
